Twin Peaks - Under The Sycamore Tree - Redux

With the 3rd series due this May, I thought I'd update a previous (2012) Twin Peaks post. 

I've tried to pull together all the TP blog aspects and centralise it into one post.

It's the esoteric stuff, so don't expect anything like a typical standard interpretation. 

This is not a beginners guide, it is for people who are familiar with the show and its mythos.

 Twin Peaks...Glaston-bury Grove...Groves are sacred to druids.

Lets not forget Mark Frost's massive contribution...a lot of esoteric ideas likely came from his pen.

The Egyptian & Druid...'one and the same' (essentially) and they both revered Thoth/Hermes and to both of them, trees were sacred.  David Lynch has 'shoe-horned' in so many 'tree-like' references within Twin Peaks, that to call him 'Druid-like' wood be a massive understatement. (pun intended).

Here is some of my take on the 'sycamore' and how it relates to mythology...particularly Egyptian.

 "In the meantime, the body of Osiris in its coffin floats out to sea and comes ashore in Byblos, where a sycamore tree (see Plutarch) sprouts and encases the coffin. Isis hears of this and goes to reclaim her husband's body, which -- after some trouble -- she succeeds in doing. She hides his remains and goes to find their son, Horus, but in the meantime Set finds the body and, fearing the new healing powers of Isis, cuts it up into 14 pieces and scatters them far and wide."
(note, sometimes this tree is referenced as a tamarisk).

(a tradition kept alive in masonry...'lodges'...the initiate is encased in a coffin to re-enact this symbolic  death/rebirth 'The 3rd Degree' etc...the legend of hiram abiff/osiris/the sun)

Note...that the tree here is Acacia and relates to Horus, who is born out of Osiris symbolically.
Isis impregnates (using the magic of Thoth)...and produces Horus.

Leland's multiple symbolic death and rebirth. Leland "rising up an down" on Laura's coffin at the burial.

Eventually, Isis is able to recover 13 of the pieces, leaving a shrine at every place she found one. The 14th piece -- his genitals --(symbolised by the obelisk, there is a big one in DC, its a symbolic penis) was, however, eaten by fish.  Still, Isis manages to reassemble Osiris and, with the help of Thoth, Anubis and Nephythys, they manage to resurrect him, at which point he becomes the God of the Underworld, or God of the Dead, and takes his place in the heavens as the constellation Orion. At the time, Orion set at sunrise on the winter solstice, thereby symbolically entering the Underworld, to be reborn as he rises heliacally on the summer solstice. 

According to the Book of Dead, twin sycamores stood at the eastern gate of heaven from which the sun god Re emerged each morning. The sycamore was also regarded as a manifestation of the goddesses Nut (Sky), Isis, and especially of Hathor, who was given the epithet Lady of the Sycamore. (Miss Twin Peaks/Annie/Hathor Graham) Sycamores were often planted near tombs, and burials  (Glaston-bury) in coffins made of sycamore wood returned the dead to the womb of the mother tree goddess. 

Stanley Kubrick requested to be buried under his favourite tree...probably because he WAS a DRUID.

Hathor is commonly depicted as a cow goddess with head horns in which is set a sun disk with Uraeus(serpent).

Lady of the Sycamore...Hathor/Isis

 "Since Isis was paired with Horus, and Horus was identified with Ra, Isis began to be merged with Hathor as Isis-Hathor. By merging with Hathor, Isis became the mother of Horus, as well as his wife. Eventually the mother role displaced the role of spouse. Thus, the role of spouse to Isis was open and in the Heliopolis pantheon, Isis became the wife of Osiris and the mother of Horus/Ra. This reconciliation of themes led to the evolution of the myth of Isis and Osiris."

Annie (Miss Twin Peaks/Queen) could be a 'lady of the sycamore' (for obvious reasons, she gets taken into the grove and pulled through the doorway/wormhole) played by Hathor Graham.  As a Queen, she could also symbolically represent the queen of the underworld aka Isis.

Windom Earle parks the truck in the woods at Glastonberry Grove. He introduces himself to Annie, and pulls her from the truck. She recites prayers to herself as he leads her to the grove. He tells her they have an appointment at the end of the world; he pulls her in to the circle of trees, then leads her past the white circle. She walks in an apparent trance. Earle leads her through red curtains that appear behind the trees. They vanish.

Major Garland Briggs...The 'Heywood Floyd' of Twin Peaks.

The Egyptian’s Holy Sycamore stood on the threshold of life and death, connecting the worlds.

Obviously...In Twin Peaks the 'grove' is a portal/gateway/wormwhole to another world.
The white lodge and the black lodge.  So all this is making perfect sense.

 "One chants out between two worlds" (connecting the worlds, as outlined above)

The earth plane & the etheric plane...two worlds.
This chant seems just like a 'call' (vibrational) and in the magickal sense.

The Twin Peaks 'lodges' dealt with a 'white lodge' (good/heaven) and a 'black lodge' (evil/hell).

 A duality, and one that is also reflected in the doppelganger (good/evil, self/shadow self, higher spiritual self/lower bestial self etc). The 'Bob/Mike, Convenience Store people' likely represented black lodge inhabitants, feeding off of evil (pain and suffering etc). We ultimately see Laura (and Cooper) in the 'white lodge' at the close of the film, a scene which actually occurs a few months after her death (see missing pieces), and perhaps even occurs after the the timeline of the ending of the TV series.  

The series also implies (imo) that Major Briggs made it to the white lodge - implying a type of perfection.

In fact, it IS the Black Lodge...Windom (via Sarah) notifies Briggs that he is in the Black Lodge with Cooper. 

We already know (via) Hawk that every 'soul' on it's way to perfection, must first pass through the Black Lodge!  Therefore the Black Lodge is the starting point for ALL who attempt to make it to the White Lodge (cross the abyss to spiritual perfection).

The 'waiting room' is perhaps an aspect that always precedes journeys through the black lodge.

Cooper in the Black Lodge (final episode). He seemingly fails the test, and his fear (running from his doppelganger, not confronting it) likely prevents him from accessing the 'White Lodge' - this (apparently) could only be mastered by using 'love' to open the door. The sycamore circle - Earle uses Annie's fear to access the lodges, whereas Cooper's love for Annie will give him access.

Seeing as though the Sycamore is a tree, it could be taken as a link to the 'tree of life' and therefore conversely 'death'!  (life/death...white lodge/black lodge...good/evil).

Tree of life = sephiroth   tree of death = qliphoth....qabala/kabbala folks.

 In the final episode - Cooper hears an owl, sees the circle of trees and the white circle of rocks, looks down at the oil and says, “an opening to a gateway.” The sycamore is also known as the 'plane tree' - which evokes the astral/etheric plane.

The sycamore can also be viewed as a rendition of Isis...and in art she was sometimes portrayed this way.

In the series (in a literal sense) is referenced to the phonograph at Jacques cabin, but this piece is attempting to unpick layers of meaning, just so you know.

A "red dwarf" is also a "star". Planets are also heavily featured in the programme, particularly towards the climax. The first thing you notice when Cooper enters the 'Black Lodge' is a statue depicting 'Venus' - and then we get an actual representation of Saturn in the room. Add in Jupiter (where Jupiter and Saturn meet) and that is 3 planets that have been referenced in the space of a few mninutes (final episode)!

This dream stuff is turning into a bit of a nightmare. Ok, so you get the point, I could go on, but won't. Lynch talks to us in 'Dreams' - that is what his work does (in part, at least). It seemingly communicates with our 'dream logic centre' our 'subconscious' - I think so, in some way at least.

Glastonbury Grove

The King Arthur connection is interesting. Avalon, according to a certain scholar could be a phonic echo of Afalon, deriving from welsh for the apple.  This potentially puts it into the realms of Eden, (for obvious reasons) and we're back again to the tree - the 'tree of knowledge' Genesis (or Gene of Isis, if you prefer.)

Geoffrey of Monmouth called it in Latin Insula Avallonis in the Historia. In the later Vita Merlini he called it Insula Pomorum the "isle of apples". The name is generally considered to be of Welsh origin (though an Old Cornish or Old Breton origin is also possible), derived from Old Welsh abal, "apple", or aball, "apple tree" (in later Middle Welsh spelled aval, avall; now Modern Welsh afal, afall). Genesis "apple and the fall of man" (a-fall).

Re: Arthur - have a look at this from Comyns Beaumont, found in his brilliant work -
'The Riddle of Pre-Historic Britain'...relating Arthur to Osiris.

Grove as in Druid's Grove, tree worshippers etc.

Now you know why there is a pyramid stage at the yearly Glastonbury Festival.

It all makes symbolic sense.

The bones of "Arthur" (Merlin being his magician/wizard) were said to be extremely large in size and the skull they found had, among many wounds, a large "gash," suggesting death by a blow to the head. (hence Briggs' wounded head).

Thru the darkness of future past, the magician longs to see. One chants out between 2 worlds: Fire Walk With Me.  

We lived among the people - I think you say convenience store? We lived above it. I mean it like it is, as it sounds. 

My name is Mike. His name is Bob. 

Note, this above quote was from the first series. The 'convenience store scene' was from the movie FWWM.
Living 'above it' (above, below) perhaps meaning both physical world and the ether, but who knows?

Missing Pieces - the above scene takes place exactly one year after Teresa Banks was killed.

Convenience Store scene - the exact time (10:10) and date are very specific for this sequence. He clearly refers to the fact that Gordon is previously aware of the details of Cooper's prior dream (Cole's "I know" line). Cooper dreamed this would happen (Bowie turning up at the FBI office, hence Cooper looking for him via the CCTV) and then the dream plays out in real 'film' life, and at the exact time that he was given in his dream. A total WTF scene! Lodge inhabitants (it is implied) are able to travel via electricity and portals, which explains Bowie's sudden disappearance.

 I do like how Lynch used Bowie in this particular scene, his persona being charged with the ideas of 'fallen star gods'.
The Man Who Fell to Earth, Ziggy Stardust from Mars etc. I don't think this was just a random choice of actor.


The Convenience Store Scene - 7-11 or Circle K? Bowie : "I've been to one of their meetings."

"This is a Formica table, green is its color" - said by MFAP (dwarf).

This is a for-mica (rock/stone) table(t). A green rock based table/tablet.

So maybe the table(t) is referring to the 'green rock' of the Emerald Tablet.

But it's a table, not a tablet - you decry...
The Emerald Tablet is frequently referred to as the Emerald Table...by the likes of Manly P Hall etc.
"Among the fragmentary writings believed to have come from the stylus of Hermes are two famous works. The first is the Emerald Table, and the second is the Divine Pymander, or, as it is more commonly called, The Shepherd of Men."

"Emerald is it's color" - and there is a small circular section of table top - which is cut out.

 "With this (magickal) ring I thee wed" (a binding contract between Bob and MFAP)

The 'ring' that likely denotes a life due to be sacrificed (a victim felled, Laura/Teresa). Felled - like dead timber or a tree. A 'ring' that ensures that the 'garmonbozia' (the victim's 'psychic' pain & suffering in food form) will be collected, and then delivered to the appropriate 'magickian/entity' for consumption in a psychic manner. The bowls and pans on the table in the first pic above contain garmonbozia (like creamed corn).

This is why 'Mike/one-armed man' throws 'the ring' into the train carriage moments before Laura's killing (at the hands of Bob/Leland - FWWM).

She puts the ring on her finger - which actually prevents Bob from possessing her, and it also ensures that 'Mike/one-armed man' gets his garmonbozia, after her death (at Bob's hands). It's the same ring that was seen on Teresa Banks, but she died without it - 'corn stealing' Bob, stole her garmonbozia (hence the missing ring). The ring also seems to function as a transportation device too, but we only see that in respect of males - see Bowie (Jeffries) and Isaak (Desmond). It's implied that the ring transports them both, and in Bowie's case - to Black Lodge.

The "O" sound - just like the "whooping" (O) type noise that we hear MFAP (red dwarf). make on occasion.

"The name Hermes (he of the emerald table) is derived from "Herm," a form of CHiRaM (CRM), the Personified Universal Life Principle, generally represented by fire ("fire walk with me"). The Scandinavians (note, Twin Peaks' Norwegians) worshiped Hermes under the name of Odin; the Teutons as Wotan, and certain of the Oriental peoples as Buddha, or Fo.

The Emerald Stone Table(t)/Ring. Hence... 

This shot with the car is seen when Cooper visits the trailer park to investigate what happened to Agent Desmond (Chris Isaac). He was seemingly transported to another place (which also happens with Jeffries/Bowie) after picking up the magickal ring there. He then goes on the missing list. Well, they find his car left like this (after he vanishes into the ether) and with the 'Let's Rock' tag written on it.

This connects the ring and the car (with tag) together.

Just the sheer 'nerdy-ness' of stating that it's made of Formica, perhaps suggests that mind should be paid to it.
The mineral mica was commonly used at that time for electrical insulation.
Because the new product acted as a substitute “for mica”, Faber coined the name “Formica”.

The Emerald Table(t) of Twin Peaks.

Corn stealing - Bob/Leland. FWWM car scene.
The One-armed Man (aka Mike) wants Laura's accumulated pain and suffering (represented by the garmonbozia/creamed corn) - he receives this upon her death. Mike is superior to Bob in the lodge hierarchy. Bob, however, has been "stealing" this garmonbozia (corn) from Mike - that is why there is a dispute between them. Bob, stealing Mike's garmonbozia from "above/over the store". Bob likely stole the garmonbozia from Teresa Banks' killing. The One-armed Man is telling Bob/Leland that he's on to him, he's warning him. (Bob doesn't want the garmonbozia this time though, he wants to possess her). One-armed Man even tells Laura/Leland what is going to happen to her - he likely waves the ring (on his pinky/little finger) to remind Bob of his obligation. This is the ring that is thrown to Laura in the train car.

One-armed Man: "Miss, the look on her face when it was opened. There was a closeness. Like the formica table top."

"Wrapped in plastic" (like formica table plastic). The word "mica" is derived from the Latin word mica, meaning "a crumb", and probably influenced by micare, "to glitter". (Rocky/stoney-like crumbs on her face, almost like face glitter).

"This is a for-mica table..."

Mica (a rock-forming mineral). The mica group of sheet silicate (phyllosilicate) minerals includes several closely related materials having close to perfect basal cleavage. All are monoclinic, with a tendency towards pseudohexagonal crystals, and are similar in chemical composition. The nearly perfect cleavage, which is the most prominent characteristic of mica, is explained by the hexagonal sheet-like arrangement of its atoms. The highest quality mica film is used to manufacture capacitors for calibration standards. The next lower grade is used in transmitting capacitors. Receiving capacitors use a slightly lower grade of high-quality muscovite. Muscovite, the principal mica used by the electrical industry, is used in capacitors that are ideal for high frequency and radio frequency...you get the idea, I'm sure.

Here come "radio rock stars" Isaak and Bowie...Let's Rock.

Note, the Tremond-Chalfont trailer (linked to the ring/ether transportation) behind Desmond (Isaak) and Rodd (Stanton).

Formica - invented at the Westinghouse Electric Corp., it was originally used to replace mica in electrical applications.

"Electricity"....and an 'opening of the mouth' moment. The (black) electrician from the convenience store.

There is an aspect where these (astral/ether) 'lodge inhabitants' travel via electricity.

The pyramid contained considerable amounts of mica in layers up to 30 cm (12 in) thick.
Recall, that it's the (Egyptian/Greek) "Phila(e)-delphi(a)" office - where the 'convenience store' tale is told.
Philae, Egypt - the Temple of Isis. Delphi, the oracle, dreams and future-telling.

The Electrician (again)

Black Lodge Bob is able to incarnate into/spirit possess 'animal familiars' (the owl etc).

Twin Peaks, Lyedecker's Vet Clinic. The beast, the rock and the (actual) store. Situated on Mulholland H-way.
Cooper and the beast incarnate - 'foreshadowing' - beastly Bob will incarnate into/possess him at the show's finale.

"We lived among the people - I think you say convenience store?
We lived above it. I mean it like it is, as it sounds. My name is Mike. His name is BOB."

They are certainly linked characters. The long-nosed mask/face and (sycamore?) wood object (like a slingshot) are seen together. The Convenience Store based "jumping man" (in similar attire to MFAP) is very tricky to decipher.

 He's clearly another spirit, it could be that Jumping Man is the spirit entity, and the (jumping) boy is his (magickal) familiar. Linked to Leland/Bob (above), probably a black lodge warning, keeping an eye on Bob. The scene with Laura, Ronette, and Teresa. Leland's 'group sex liaison' - the one that he backed-out of.

Red Diamond Motel (diamond, a rock). Above, right - could that be the Chalfont/Tremond trailer/caravan, or a representation of it? We know one disappeared from the Fat Trout, it was used by the old woman and boy/magician (seen above). A utility pole (electrical) nearby too.

It's even possible that (red) Jumping Man represents the 'ultimate evil', as in an avatar for the devil.
In the Convenience Store clip - Bob seemingly interacts and is linked with the Jumping Man.
The formal outfit worn by 'the boy/Jumping Man' are very similar (boy's is identical) to what Cooper actually wears.

Bowie is sucked in to this scene by being transported from Buenos Aires, likely under the agency of the black lodge.
The possession of Cooper (by Bob) is potentially the ultimate goal of the black lodge dwellers.
It is after all, what we see happen to him at the end of series 2 - after failing in the black lodge (How's Annie? etc).
The black lodge's catalyst for Cooper's possession, is therefore, the bringing of Cooper to Twin Peaks to solve Laura's murder (this is how he is ultimately drawn in).

(Above) Note, 'Cooper/Jumping Man' are superimposed, and at the point where Jeffries questions his identity.
Jumping man's arm movement mimics that of Jeffries - black lodge spirits that have pulled Jeffries into this Philly scene.
During this recollection he points to Cooper and states - "Who do you think this is there?"

Jumping Man could be Cooper's master controlling entity - the boy could represent (the to be possessed) Cooper.
Head (noggin) bumping/bashing is also referenced by Agent Rosenfield (right) in the Philly scene.

Is FBI Jeffries (Bowie) trying to indicate that Cooper is not what he seems, or that he might become not what he seems (as in possessed)? This would be precognition of the future, FWWM being the last seven days of Laura, the TV series starting with the discovery of her body. The Bowie scene takes place in Phila-DELPHI-a, Delphi, the oracle - dreams, future telling etc. Cooper begins the scene mentioning his dream to Gordon. We also know he has had prior dream/vision contact with Laura because it's shown via the film's Tremond/Chalfont picture frame dream - advising her not to take the ring.

The dream/vision (below) also precognitively indicates Annie's fate at the end of the TV series.
You can see red room type curtains at 3.45secs behind Laura - this picture is a portal to the black lodge.

 Is it future or is it past? Time is seemingly non-linear in the red room. Related Saturn (Cronos) is linked to time.
 Perhaps, the Convenience Store meeting scene is ultimately about getting to and possessing Cooper (which occurs via Laura), he being the final prize. The clip also shows Cooper having contact with the lodges (likely black) and MFAP - before Cooper has even set foot in Twin Peaks. All something to consider at least, Lynch's work is impenetrable to many people, so complete answers are very hard to come by.

If "the boy" is not related to Cooper, then he's an avatar for Bowie (see hair), who was present at the convenience store.

Jeffries formerly witnessed the Convenience Store meeting (retold here in Philly), he arrived at the store via the ring found at Judy's in Seattle. Bowie also mentions Judy, just before he is teleported from Buenos Aires to Philadelphia. Judy was (likely) Josie Packard's sister. Josie was also likely possessed (and killed) by Bob - she's connected to him as the 2nd series showed. It was Josie who shot Cooper, and likely under the aegis of Bob. The "owl/Cooper" space message (sent at the time of his shooting) indicates some of this activity. 

An episode in season 2 (Coma) - directly related to the above 'convenience store' scene, and a few of the same protagonists (Mrs Tremond/Chalfont, and young boy aka Pierre) also feature, as do references to 'magick' and 'the garmonbozia'.

The (tarot) Devil, fire and Baphomet - adopting the sign/gesture of "as above, so below" (as per the tablet).

The series does actually reference '666' and in respect of the woods/lodges. You'll see this later.

Log Lady's (deceased) husband is present in the Convenience Store - the 'woodsman' (far right & flipped below).

"We live inside a dream..."
Margaret/Log Lady's woodsman husband (Prochnow) "met the devil" (fire and the Black Lodge) and likely strayed into the Glastonbury portal which could have led him to contact with Black Lodge, and its inhabitants. Fire IS the devil - fire is also linked to possession, and is the cause of his death (but not a "kind" fire, as Margaret makes clear). "Fire Walk With Me" is also an operative phrase (magickal/vibrational chant) that is seemingly linked to actual possession (see what happens to Laura when she utters it). The woodsman's earlier gathering of oil (on the night before his death) from this area also supports the idea of straying via this location. This all happened just before, and on the night of their wedding (love, "fear and love open the doors"). The woods are called GHOSTWOOD - many times we're informed of the spirits held within these woods (in a literal sense).

Log Lady's husband (a woodsman/lumberjack) is another that was likely/possibly possessed by these Black Lodge inhabitants, just as I believe that "saw mill/logging" Josie was too, hence her spirit being embedded into the drawer knob (by Black Lodge Bob/Mike). The woodsman entity (seen at the convenience store) might be his doppelganger. It's also possible that an aspect of the woodman's spirit is embedded in her "log" - hence why she communicates with it etc, and is aware of some of the "lodge" activities etc. Margaret also has aspects of the (Owl cave tattoo). It's also a bit unusual to use an established actor like Prochnow, for such a small cameo (non-speaking) role, they could've used anyone, but they used Jurgen. Accidental access to the black lodge and its entities is shown via Bowie (Jeffries), Isaak (Desmond) both via the ring, and possibly Carl "I've gone places" Rodd (Fat Trout, Stanton). Banks (murdered by Bob/Leland at Fat Trout), had the ring when she was staying at Carl's Fat Trout trailer park.

I know this is all hard to follow, and a total mind fuck, but that's Lynch in a nutshell. Half of the fun is deciphering him and his work! Don't get too bogged-down in the detail, just appreciate the flavours/overlaps being used.

Log Lady: "My husband was a logging man. He met the devil. Fire is the devil, hiding like a coward in the smoke."

Could this also be an indicator for Jumping Man being the symbolic devil - this is Fire Walk With Me?

Black Lodge, Windom: 'These evil sorcerers, dugpas they're called, they cultivate evil for the sake of evil and nothing else. They express themselves in darkness - for darkness, without leavening motive. This ardent purity allows them to access a secret place, where the cultivation of evil proceeds in exponential fashion. And with it, the furtherance of evil's resulting power.'

The senior 'black lodge' entity missing from the conv. store is Mike/one-armed man, an entity who inhabits Gerard.

At the close of FWWM he is bodily shown as one-armed man/Gerard (linking with red dwarf/MFAP).

MFAP (man from another place) is literally the "arm" of the complete lodge entity that is Mike.
It's one-armed Mike that makes the quote about the convenience store, so he is a key proponent of the whole arrangement.

Mike is also superior to Bob in the lodge hierarchy, as his garmonbozia demands (made at the film's close) demonstrate.
MFAP (Mike's arm) consumes the 'garmonbozia' (Laura's psychic pain) at the end - you use an actual arm to eat etc.

Considering all this, it's possible that Jumping 'convenience store' Man could be a representation of Mike, but in his "etheric/spirit entity" state, not as the human form one-armed Gerard. I'm just covering all the bases.

Finally, Jumping Man can be linked to the concept of Heyoka - a type of jester/fool (tarot), North American medicine man. The Heyókȟa is thought of as being backwards-forwards, upside-down, or contrary in nature. This manifests by their doing things backwards or unconventionally — riding a horse backwards, wearing clothes inside-out, or speaking in a backwards language.

Lakota mythology, Heyókȟa is a spirit of thunder and lightning - said to use the wind as sticks to beat the drum of thunder.
These conditions are reflected in the convenience store - windy/stormy, a room with plastic storm windows etc.
In art, he is depicted as having two horns, which marks him as a hunting spirit.
Note - how old heyoka depictions feature a 'horned' entity (see devil/baphomet).

Twin Peaks' Ben experiences his own 'the long dark night of the soul' (inferring a type of ego death) via his jailing - s2 ep9.
The 'invisible masters' an aspect of the Dugpas etc.

Episode Season 2. Eps 20 (1991). The evil sorcerous Dugpas.

 Windom Earle: These evil sorcerers, dugpas they're called, they cultivate evil for the sake of evil and nothing else. They express themselves in darkness -- for darkness, without leavening motive.  Windom Earle: The planets (Jupiter & Saturn) our babbling major spoke of are more than distant orbs. They are, in fact, a clock (chronos/saturn - chronology/time). A clock that tells the time. And the time...time draws nearer with each ticking tock! Dale wasn't far wrong. The cave painting is an invitation of sorts, telling us when the revels begin. But what Dale doesn't know is where to find it. For you see, the cave painting is not only an invitation, it is also a map -- a map to the Black Lodge!


Chronos/Cronos/Saturn - was depicted in Greco-Roman mosaics as a man turning the Zodiac Wheel.

 Earle ahas a fascination with the Black Lodge, whose secrets he is trying to unlock, as well as black magic.
Major Garland Briggs states that Earle was involved in Project Blue Book, as was Briggs; however, their investigation in which Earle was involved was directly related to Twin Peaks and not the usual UFO investigations.

Earle mentions the 'black lodge' in this episode and says...

The sephiroth/qliphoth does seem comparable to the dual white/black lodge concept (in the spiritual sense).
The 'entropic' nature of the 'qliphoth' lending itself quite nicely to the domain of Bob & friends...their purpose seemingly being to feed off the cultivation of suffering.

Briggs and his disappearance in the woods...

Briggs: "I was night fishing with...Agent Cooper. There was a light...a guardian beyond it.
I was taken...but my mind...still I recognised the signs."

 Briggs disappears and/or is abducted.

This sudden abduction is highly reminiscent of the reports of alien abductions throughout recent history. That resemblance might help to explain why it is that the Major studies deep space communications, as a part of his classified Intelligence work.

Major Garland (Judy) Briggs, after he gets seemingly abducted or goes through a portal...he finally comes back a few days later, and is left totally bewildered etc. It's here that this tattoo is then discovered on his neck, but with no explanation.

I have yet to see anyone reference the 3 triangle symbol on Briggs' neck as the symbol of the 'Demon/Guardian of the Abyss'/'Dweller on the Threshold'...generally known as Choronzon.

  Briggs' tattoo is identical to the symbol of Choronzon.  Choronzon is mentioned in the workings of Elizabethan John Dee (007) & Kelley with respect to Enochian magick.

On the 'tree of life' (below), Choronzon represents the Guardian of the the 2nd veil, who resides in the sphere of Daath.
I think comparisons can be made with 'the tree of life'/'tree of death' and the 'White Lodge'/'Black Lodge' idea.
 The apex of the tree of life is the "crown" (kether) - Annie is the "crowned" tree queen.

Sphere 3 also represents Saturn, and sphere 4 represents Jupiter.
They both straddle the (dweller on the threshold of) da'ath wormhole. See "planets" on the tree of life.

"Where Jupiter (lightning) and Saturn (rings) meet."

Crowley states:

This doctrine is extremely difficult to explain; but it corresponds more or less to the gap in thought between the Real, which is ideal, and the Unreal, which is actual. In the Abyss all things exist, indeed, at least in posse, but are without any possible meaning; for they lack the substratum of spiritual Reality. They are appearances without Law. They are thus Insane Delusions. (like Brigg's probably during his experience and he certainly displays himself like this, after the event!)

Just wanted to point out that Briggs is marked with the symbol of Choronzon...well that is one possible interpretation at least. The fact that Briggs is heavily connected to 'Project Bluebook' dealing with ufo/extra-terrestrial (demonic?) contact is a key point imo...especially when connected with 'magick' and 'demons'..for if you look into Crowley's contact with the entity 'Lam' (Tibetan for 'way' or 'path' and Twin Peaks is stuffed with Tibetan mysticism).  It is 'Lam' the 'praeter-human' entity that bears more than just a glancing similarity to the classic UFO occupant...AKA 'the alien grey'.

 Crowley's Lam (or shadow self) and The Great Wizard 'entity from OZ'.

We have Hawk, waxing lyrical about 'TDOTT' and meeting your shadow self (arguably Choronzon could be the shadow self) which bears many similarities to the Qabalistic apsects of 'crossing the abyss'...something that can be thought of as akin to a form of 'ego death'.

Aleister Crowley further altered and popularized the term in certain occult circles, referring to a "Brother of the Left-Hand Path," or a "Black Brother," as one who failed to attain the grade of Magister Templi in Crowley's system of ceremonial magic.  Crowley also referred to the Left-Hand Path when describing the point at which the Adeptus Exemptus (such as his old Christian mentor, Macgregor Mathers) chooses to cross the Abyss, which is the location of Choronzon and the illusory eleventh Sephira, which is Da'ath or Knowledge. In this example, the adept must surrender all, including the guidance of his Holy Guardian Angel, and leap into the Abyss. If his accumulated Karma is sufficient, and if he has been utterly thorough in his own self-destruction, he becomes a "babe of the abyss," arising as a Star in the Crowleyan system. On the other hand, if he retains some fragment of ego, or if he fears to cross, he then becomes encysted. The layers of his self, which he could have shed in the Abyss, ossify around him. He is then titled a "Brother of the Left-Hand Path," who will eventually be broken up and disintegrated against his will, since he failed to choose voluntary disintegration.  Crowley associated all this with "Mary, a blasphemy against BABALON," and with the celibacy of Christian clergy.

 A brief aside and an example for understanding. Lynch, was once approached to direct Return of the Jedi.

DO NOT discount any of this (kabbalistic magick) stuff in respect of its relationship to Twin Peaks. The recently penned book "The Secret History of Twin Peaks" (Mark Frost) has listed Aleister "OTO/Thelema/Tree of Life" Crowley, and (the related) Jack Whiteside Parson (OTO/Thelema/JPL rocketry) Parsons, as WEARERS of the Owl Cave Ring! 

I was writing and linking some of these weird kabbalistic aspects (see my work on 777) to the Twin Peaks universe long before that book and the 3rd series were even considered, let alone written and produced!

It was Crowley who penned the kabbalistic book "777" - linked to the "lightning tree of life."

Back on track now...

This is important due to the nature of the story at this point, and the obvious allusion that Briggs went on some sort of metaphysical journey - perhaps 'The White Lodge' but who knows?

Maybe Briggs met his shadow self and defeated it, because he has to travel through the black lodge to get to the white lodge, in order attain perfection (as outlined by Hawk). This is unlike what happens with Cooper who fails. If the 3rd series had been made back in the 90s, I would expect that Cooper would've been possessed by Bob (as shown a the end of series 2), and that the series would've continued in that vein. I do like to think that Briggs passed his test and defeated the black lodge., and he may have even gone on to rescue Cooper from the black lodge. Windom does inform Briggs (final episode) that he is waiting for him in the black lodge - which helps support this idea. Briggs greatest fear in the world was the 'possibility that love wasn't enough' - which imo singled him out as a particularly special character, at least to me anyway. When considering Choronzon - we are in the realm of Qabala and its various alternative spellings, no pun intended.

Cooper: "Two 'symbols' combined into a larger whole." 

The other mysterious symbol/glyph...also seen inside 'Owl Cave' and Cooper's drawing, made up of Tattoo's from Briggs (although it also relates to the abyss, as seen earlier) & The Log Lady.

 This is also part referenced in 'the emerald ring'...as you can see and also inside 'owl cave'

All this Qabala, brings me nicely...to a familiar & seemingly potent 'qabalistic number' and 'magick number of the sun'.

We also learn that the messages that the Major shared with Cooper (“The owls are not what they seem” and “CooperCooperCooper” written over and over) originated from the woods around Twin Peaks – the very location that’s been the focal point of the figurative and literal 'heart of darkness' in this town. The suggestion is that these signals came from earth and were sent up into space – a reversal of the sorts of “extraterrestrial transmission” into earth that we typically see in films and TV.

(The 3 Cooper's could be 'The Typical Dale', 'The Doppelganger Dale' and finally the 'Bob, Possessed Dale'.)
Three incarnations of Dale...Cooper/Cooper/Cooper, the message probably came from the Black Lodge in the woods (as Briggs states, from the wood and into space) and possibly a 'message' from the 'lodge inhabitants' to their masters/helpers in the ether. The main prize being the possession of FBI Agent Dale Cooper - a plan being designed all along etc.

 After his 'abduction/portal crossing' return and Windom interrogation....Cooper and Truman (Sheriff) try to communicate with the Major, even calling him by his first name, Garland, though Briggs mistakes that as a reference to Judy Garland. A tie-in to The Wizard of Oz. The Oz theme is 'done to death' in Lynch's Wild at Heart, and I'm sure you're aware of the 'emerald' elements involved with the Oz mythos.

 In his navajo/The Shining inspired wrap..."Judy Garland?"

Briggs mumbles...."Protect the queen" and "Fear and love open the doors." 
Cooper figures it out: Two lodges, two doors. Fear opens the Black Lodge, love opens the White Lodge.
He also realises that protect the queen means Windom Earle probably is planning to abduct whoever wins the pageant.

 The 'Real' Project Blue Book and William Garland: 
"Another important change came when General William Garland joined Cabell's staff; Garland thought the UFO question deserved serious scrutiny because he had witnessed a UFO."  Perhaps this is one of the reasons that Lynch (or whoever) chose that name...the other being the 'Oz' connection.

Where Jupiter/Zeus and Saturn/Cronos meet...
Zeus threw his lightning/thunder bolts from Mount Olympus - which had two (Twin) peaks.

The zig-zag (lightning bolt) is one of Lynch's most utilised motifs. It's key in Twin Peaks and Erase-rhea-d.

UFO - an Unidentified Flying Owl
 Zeus - repeatedly transformed (like shape-shifting Bob) to approach mortals (usually females) as a means of gaining access.

Owl resonant Athena (wisdom) - who was born from the cleft of (Greek lightning/shape shifting god) Zeus's axed head.
In Clash of the Titans - the gods oversee and influence the activity and development of men.

Twin 'Olympus' Peaks featured Billy "Titan-ic" Zane - who also connects to the 'lightning bolt' via 'enchantment under the sea' - Back to the Future. Neptune (Poseidon) is seen at the under the sea dance. Zane played Neptune in Going Overboard (1989).

We've just previously mentioned '666'. Zane (Cal Hockley) would feature with "The '666' Omen" actor - David 'Twin Peaks' Warner (Spicer Lovejoy) in Titan-ic. Warner also starred in "S.O.S Titanic" (1979).
As I've stated before, the tale of the Titanic, in itself, encapsulates the war between the Olympian Gods and the Titans.
The Titans, of course (like the Titanic vessel, who had an Olympic sister ship), were ultimately vanquished.

Zane's breakthrough was opposite "Omen 3" star Sam 'Damien' Neill, in nautical based "Dead Calm". Major '666' Briggs (Davis), also briefly featured in "Omen IV". Scully's father, William (X-Files - played by Briggs/Davis) connects to aspects of (666 resonant) biblical Revelation (and antichrist birthing) in X-Files. Briggs reads aloud from biblical Revelation (quoting the beast and the bottomless pit) in FWWM (missing pieces), when Laura visits Bobby for the final time.

Twin Peaks regularly references the Native American. Mount Si (the actual mountain from Twin Peaks) is a remnant of an oceanic plate volcano. Mount Si figures prominently in a Prometheus story from the Snoqualmie Indian tribe. According to the story it is the dead body of Snoqualm, the moon. Snoqualm had ordered that a rope of cedar bark be stretched between the earth and the sky. (Sounds very similar to jacob's ladder imo). But Fox and Blue Jay went up the rope and stole the sun from Snoqualm. Snoqualm chased them down the cedar rope, but it broke and he fell to his death. Fox then let the sun free in the sky and gave fire to the people (exactly as prometheus had). A face like Snoqualm's is visible on the rocks near the summit.

Let's Rock(y) via Philly - he straddles the world of Twin Peaks/The Shining - Tony "Apollo's trainer/Rocky" Burton.

I think this is (potentially) veiled sodomite propaganda! I include (masonic) NASA, and their activities within this same concept too.

THE SHINING

Removed scene...about 2 weeks after initial release.

 Shelley Duvall:

The manager visits her (Wendy), apologizes for what happened, and invites her to live with him. She doesn't say yes or no. Then he goes into the hallway of the hospital, passes in front of Danny, who is playing on the ground with some toys. When he gets near the exit, he stops and says, 'I almost forgot, I have something for you.' And he pulls from his pocket the yellow ball that the twins had thrown at Danny. It bounces twice (we spent a whole day filming so it would bounce the right way), Danny catches it, looks at it, then lifts his eyes towards the hotel manager, stupefied, realizing that throughout the story he was aware of the mystery of the hotel.

At that point...the film would've gone onto the lobby zoom shot and the pictures on the wall...fade out.

Phew...and for now, we'll leave it at that.

Twin Greaks/Greeks

Elysium aka The Elysian Fields lay on the western margin of the Earth, by the encircling stream of Oceanus (Odyssey), and there the mortal relatives of the king of the gods were transported, without tasting death, to enjoy an immortality of bliss (Odyssey book iv: 563). (Evoking Enoch, my emphasis.)

  In Greek mythology, Elysium (Greek: Ἠλύσια πεδία) was a section of the Underworld . The Elysian Fields, or the Elysian Plains, were the final resting places of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous. Elysium is an obscure name that evolved from a designation of a place or person struck by lightning, enelysion, enelysios.  This could be a reference to Zeus, the god of lightning/Jupiter, so "lightning-struck" could be saying that the person was blessed (struck) by Zeus (lightning/fortune).

Elysium/Underworld/Under The Lightning Sycamore...Zeus aka Jupiter...where Jupiter and Saturn meet.

 Zeus threw his lightning/thunder bolts from Mount Olympus..with 2 (Twin) Peaks

There is even a direct reference in Utah... see pics

However it is the central, almost vertical, rocky peaks, that impress the visitor, over Litochoro, where the relief of the mountain displays on the horizon an apparent V, between two peaks (twin peaks) of almost equal height. In the left limb is Mytikas (or Pantheon - 2,918 metres (9,573 ft), Greece's highest peak, and on the right one Stefani (or Thronos Dios, Throne of Zeus - 2,902 metres, 9,521 ft), that presents the most impressive and steep peak of Olympus. I wonder if the given population size (51,201) is related (in some way) to the height (9,521) of the 'relevant' Stefani/Zeus Olympus peak?

In most modern tarot decks, Temperance stands between Death and The Devil.

Both aspects (above) are very much 'on point' for Twin Peaks and its narrative scope/plot.

The V between the Peaks, Temperance, he or she guides the souls of the dead to judgment.

In some traditions, Temperance does the judging. In those schools, the cups in Temperance’s hands are the functional equivalent of scales, and Temperance. Similar to Maat, Egyptian goddess, who judges the soul’s worth before passing it on to the beasts of the underworld. (black lodge/sycamore)

Laura's Angel...she, who guides her into the (Elysium) afterlife, FWWM ending.

 Donna’s father, Dr. Will Hayward, tells Laura her fate, which is ultimately shown in the final moments of Fire Walk With Me. Hayward tells Laura that her prescription is actually a secret message:
“The angels will return, and when you see the one that’s meant to help you, you will weep with joy.” (Missing Pieces)

If you watch Windom and Annie in the truck (outside the Grove), you'll notice that 'black lodge' Windom, noticeably bashes Annie's head into the truck's rear window - there is an 'echo' at work between both these aspects.

 The Twin Peaks 'film'...Missing Pieces, hammers this 'struck' point home even further (with an extended version of the same TV scene). COOPER (smiling strangely): "I slipped and hit my head on the mirror.

The glass broke as it struck my head. (laughs) It struck me as funny, Harry. Do you understand me, Harry, it struck me as funny."

More "struck crown" foreshadowing via "oil and curtains" Nadine. Same with Ben, Doc Hayward and Bobby.

Cooper's prior dream...FWWM (Twin Peaks film)

This scene above is introduced using the instrumental sounds of the "Dance of the Dream Man" (track)

Delphi - Greek Oracle  (Twin Peaks uses elements of both Delphi & Dodona).
An oracle was a person/agency considered to provide wise counsel or prophetic predictions or precognition of the future, inspired by the gods. As such it is a form of divination. The important oracles of Greece were Pythia, Delphi, and the oracle of Dione and Zeus at Dodona. In Greece the old oracles were devoted to the Mother Goddess. Dione is translated as "Goddess", and given the same etymological derivation as the names (lightning bolt) Zeus, Diana, et al. 

Diana, her major pilgrimage centres were Ephesus and Nemi, the Sacred Grove (Glastonberry, my emphasis).
She was Dione, Diana Nemorensis, or Nemetona, Goddess of the Moon-grove.

 Delphi, Oracle, Dreams, Future Pre-cognition and The Ear.

Phila-DELPHI-a...the oracle and dreams.  The whole scene makes references to dreams, Cooper's initial dialogue telling Cole about the dream he had mentioned. This infers that Cooper had dreamed that this 'event' would happen (previous details he must've mentioned to Cole), that Bowie would show up (note how Cole, says "I know"), hence why Cooper looks for him via the CCTV etc, and it unfolds. Not forgetting Bowie's dialogue "A dream, we live inside a dream!". That's the basic set-up, although it is much more detailed a 'scene', overall (with the convenience store people and Bowie's inter-dimensional travel), but it takes a long time to explain. 'Phila', from Philae, Egypt, site of a venerated Ancient Egyptian Temple.

 "...the earth-deity might acquire an oracular function (oracle), especially through the process of incubation, in which the consultant slept in a holy shrine with his ear upon the ground."

Not Jeffries, but Jeffrey (MacLachlan, Agent 'Dream' Cooper) in Lynch's Blue Velvet - 'ear upon the ground'. Jeffrey, (etymology) can mean district, traveler or peaceful. This was about 3 years before Twin Peaks...so it's the incubation period.  He is the oracular function aka 'dream oracle' (via Delphi) of Twin Peaks, he has several pre-cognitive dreams/episodes in the show. Blue Velvet also famously features 'In Dreams' by Orbison and has similar Peaks-like settings and motifs.

The finding of the 'ear' in Blue Velvet & the dream (that starts with the ear) in Twin Peaks ("break the code/dream, solve the crime"), are both instrumental in unraveling the larger mystery. Kyle (Jeffrey/Cooper) seems to be Lynch's main 'dream oracle' he has similar experiences in Dune.

"In dreams I walk with you. In dreams I talk to you."
Twin Peaks - Pilot/Episode 2 (Cooper's dream, it features the exact same ear!)

Twin Peaks pilot filming: Suddenly, Lynch exclaims, "I know what we need"! Lynch then proceeds to carefully pull from his pocket, the prop severed ear from Blue Velvet. The ear was apparently in his pocket the entire time. With no explanation as to it's meaning or significance, Lynch very carefully partially submerges the ear into the center of the pile of dirt (ear, ear-th and earth-deity geddit, my emphasis) and the closeup is filmed. (I think we know the meaning and significance now, my emphasis).

We see the ear in the dirt/earth (at start) in Cooper's dream. It will be 'the ear' (of Cooper) that gets whispered into (by Laura) giving him the name of the killer. Start/Finish is book-ended with an ear.

Season 2 Episode 9 (Arbitrary Law) - Laura's Diary

Sharing a dream is NOT impossible in the Twin Peaks universe. It was the same dream. ("We live inside a dream").
However, their shared dream occurred at different times! Laura is still alive when she has her dream (hence, writing about it),
but dead when Cooper has his! More indications of non-linear time/space in the Black Lodge.
The second entry (23rd) clearly indicates Laura's wish to die, she actually WANTS to die, to be free from Bob.

Missing Pieces - Convenience Store and Bowie. (see video clip, again).

Convenience Store scene - the exact time (10:10) and date are very specific for this sequence. He clearly refers to the fact that Gordon is previously aware of the details of Cooper's prior dream. Cooper dreamed this would happen (Bowie turning up at the FBI office, hence Cooper looking for him via the CCTV) and then the dream plays out in real 'film' life, and at the exact time that he was given in his dream. This scene occurs exactly one year after Teresa Banks was killed.

Disney's Spinning Wheel(s)...

 As one of the 'three fates' her (Clotho) contribution to mythology was immense. 

Clotho, along with her sisters, and Hermes (hermanubis, on the wheel), was given credit for creating the alphabet for their people. (see Bob's letters/alphabet, below).

Although Clotho and her sisters were real goddesses, their representation of fate is more focused upon in Greek mythology.
Thread represented human life and her decisions represented the fate of all men in society.

A cloth (clotho) "death bag" 

Leland and Windom were both possessed by Bob - they ALL referenced the (cloth) death bag.

Windom has spiders in the bag - creatures that spin webs using silk threads.

The 3 Fates...spinning via the wheel

Clotho (/ˈkloʊθoʊ/; Greek: Κλωθώ), whose name literally means 'spinner' is the youngest of the Three Fates or Moirai – including her sisters Lachesis and Atropos, in ancient Greek mythology. Lakhesis, whose name means "Apportioner of Lots"--being derived from a word meaning to receive by lot (lottery)--, measured the thread of life. Atropos (or Aisa), whose name means "She who cannot be turned," (turning) cut the thread of life. Clotho was responsible for spinning the thread of human life. She also made major decisions, such as when a person was born, thus in effect controlling people's lives. This power enabled her not only to choose who was born, but also to decide when gods or mortals were to be saved or put to death. 
For example, when Pelops was killed and boiled by his father, it was Clotho who brought him back to life.

Ariadne labyrinth/maze, The Shining (vision/dream based) labyrinth/maze & 'dream based' Inception labyrinth/maze via character Ariadne (who else!). Circular maze/wheel, also evokes the brain.

 Ariadne, the Greek goddess of fertility, is similar to Clotho in that she carries a ball of thread, much like Clotho’s spindle.  This is a potential link to Kubrick's The Shining and 'the maze' (minotaur) and the trail of breadcrumbs (thread), as referenced by Wendy. “This place is such an enormous maze, I feel like I’ll have to leave a trail of bread crumbs every time I come in”.
The Shining, the fate of 3 characters, who live in apartment 3 and connected to dreams/visions (like Inception).

The Moirai (aka Three Fates) were independent, at the helm of necessity, directed fate, and watched that the fate assigned to every being by eternal laws might take its course without obstruction; and Zeus, as well as the other gods and man, had to submit to them.

The 3 Fates, they assigned to the Erinyes - who inflicted the punishment for evil deeds, their proper functions; and with them they 'directed fate' according to the laws of necessity. 

Irene (Bates) played Mrs X, Eraser-head...the black lodge "zig-zag bolt" floor pattern, 1977. 

Zeus - as well as the other gods and man, had to submit to them. (3 Fates, Moirai, leading to Erinyes.)

 Erinyes (Moirai/Fates)...Mulholland drive, ending

 

 
In Greek mythology the Erinyes  "pursue, persecute"--sometimes referred to as "infernal goddesses" (Greek χθόνιαι θεαί)-- were female chthonic deities of vengeance. A formulaic oath in the Iliad invokes them as "those who beneath the earth punish whosoever has sworn a false oath". Burkert suggests they are "an embodiment of the act of self-cursing contained in the oath".

 The same concept, may well have been used at the climax of the Twin Peaks film.

  Fire Walk With Me - Leland (Bob), chasing down Laura & Ronette and in a similar manner.

The Erinyes are crones and, depending upon authors, described as having snakes for hair, dog's heads, coal black bodies, bat's wings, and blood-shot eyes. In their hands they carry brass-studded scourges, and their victims die in torment. 

Hap's Diner, Deer Meadow - it was like an inverted/negative version of Twin Peaks' R&R Diner.
Leland (Bob) will enter the "underworld" (under the sycamores) immediately after Laura's murder.

Chthonic ( "in, under, or beneath the earth" pertaining to the Earth; earthy; subterranean) designates, or pertains to, deities or spirits of the underworld, especially in relation to Greek religion. The Greek word khthon is one of several for "earth"; it typically refers to the interior of the soil, rather than the living surface of the land (as Gaia or Ge does) or the land as territory (as khora (χώρα) does). It evokes at once abundance and the grave.

Diane haunted by 'demons' of the past, present and future (the key to Pandora's box)

We hear maniacal laughing (from the male) and we hear a young girl screaming, all at the same time...combined with the hammering at the door...this pushes her over the edge. The heavy knocking that comes from the door...is a sound that we're now very familiar with and throughout.

 Diane's death/suicide...the grave

 We close in on the bag and see the 'old jitterbug couple' (in miniature) escape from the box/bag.

Notice the 'can' ring-pull and brown paper bag containing the box. Something has been 'opened' (ring-pull). There is a small piece of meat there too.

Diane and the 'infernal goddesses' Erinyes (Irene) assigned by the 3 fates of the spinning wheel

We're not told the name of the old man, perhaps to emphasize the 'irene/erinyes' aspect

Infernal Goddesses...'infernal', of or relating to 'hell'.

Aeschylus, Eumenides 334 ff (trans. Weir Smyth) (Greek tragedy C5th B.C.) :

"This revenge (Diane's suicide) upon the murderer (Diane, the murderer of Camilla) is our (the Erinyes/Irene) right, spun for us by the Moirai (Fates), the ones who bind the world."

Suicide is described as a breech of fate by at least one Roman writer. 

Statius, Thebaid 10. 810 ff (trans. Mozley) (Roman epic C1st A.D.) :

"Of thy own will and pleasure slain [of one who committed suicide], ay, even against the will of Fata [Moira, Fate], thou hast forcest an entrance to the gloomy Manes (Shades)."

Infernal 'Erinyes' Goddesses...'infernal', of or relating to 'hell'.

The Winkies (Oz) vagrant...begins the process (via the bag) that leads to Diane's death.

Black "Hades/Hell" Lodge

The lightning bolt...Zeus/Jupiter. Saturn (left) - "Where Jupiter and Saturn meet."

  Parents: Rhea and Cronos (aka Saturn). Erase-RHEA-d (mother of Zeus) and the lightning struck crown.

Henry raises a 'baby' (yet destroys it) this is yet another aspect associated with Saturn (cronos) and Ops (Rhea), that relates to Jupiter aka (lightning) Zeus.

 The struck 'Erase-rhea-d' crown...(above) follows after 'another baby' usurps Henry.

Jupiter (Zeus) was the son of Saturn (Cronos). Saturn, the previous king of the gods, began to swallow the children that he had with his wife, Ops (Greek equivalent - Rhea), when they were born. This was because he had been warned that one of his children would overthrow him. 

Saturn swallowed the children Neptune, Pluto, Ceres, Juno and Vesta. When Ops (Rhea) realised that she was pregnant again, she had the baby secretly moved to Crete, giving a stone wrapped in swaddling-clothes (see baby, left) to Saturn for him to eat. Saturn believed he had eaten Jupiter (Zeus), therefore Jupiter (Zeus) was saved. Henry is clearly an avatar for Saturn, hence his 'baby mashing' activities...but the 'other baby' (Zeus) that followed, ultimately usurps him!  Mary X (the mother) is the Rhea character, she moves away and he's left with the baby.

 The opening titles heavy relate to celestial phenomena, Jack 'Tree of Life/Mulholland Dr' Fisk, as 'God-like' composite, pulling 'sparking levers' that seem to influence Henry. We see (superimposed) a planet pass over Henry's face/head and strange sperm-like creatures (a visual metaphor for babies) pass over his mouth, which opens/closes, effectively providing the 'swallowing' resonance...babies, swallowing and planets, geddit?

Henry (Jack Nance, Eraserhead) would play Pete Martell in Twin Peaks - he discovers Laura's body.

The beginning and the end...

 

Zeus - as well as the other gods and man, had to submit to them (3 Fates, Moirai).

Moirai (origin of Moira, name) relate to the '3 fates'...Twin 'Lightning' Peaks was about the fate of Laura (Palm-er, palm/kaph, the wheel & the world cards, sycamore wheel)...

...her closest friend was Donna, who was played by Moira Kelly in the Twin Peaks film!

The Moira-i watched that the fate assigned to every being by eternal laws, might take its course without obstruction.
Donna (Moira) will (generally) oversee Laura, and her last 7 days.

 3 Fates (Moirai) of The Wheel, who measured, spun and cut, the thread of life:

 Lakhesis, whose name means "Apportioner of Lots" measured the thread of life. Atropos (or Aisa), whose name means "She who cannot be turned," (turning) cut the thread of life. Clotho was responsible for spinning the thread of human life. 

 

 Thread represented human life and her (Clotho) decisions represented the fate of all men in society.

Atropos 'cut' the thread of life...Atropos, root of atrophy, to wither/decay etc

 "The 'thread' will be 'torn' (cut) Mr Palmer, the thread will be torn." 

The one-armed man, is (precognitively) telling Leland/Bob (and Laura) that she will be killed (her thread will be torn). 

 This is why he (precognitively) mentions her literal 'death mask'.

"The stillness of her face", as her visage is revealed at the river's edge (see pilot), this occurring in the future.
This is also where Bob/Leland is accused of stealing the corn (garmonbozia), likely relating to Teresa Banks. 
One-armed man also mentions the "formica table", the same table where we saw the garmonbozia pans.

The dispute between Bob (Leland is his current host) and Mike...his demand for Laura's psychic pain.

Leland/Bob is ultimately trying to possess Laura, this is his aim, he wants to taste through her mouth etc. This was never the arrangement though, Bob is acting outside his remit. The one-armed Man (aka Mike) wants Laura's accumulated pain and suffering (represented by the garmonbozia/creamed corn), which he receives upon her death (as per their original contract). Bob, however, has been "stealing" this garmonbozia (corn) from his superior (Mike), that is why there is a dispute between them. Bob, stealing Mike's garmonbozia from "above/over the store" - where it is kept (a convenient place to store, literally). Bob, very likely stole the garmonbozia that related to Teresa Banks (after killing her, she was found without the ring). In the shot below, Mike makes his demand and he receives what was deemed his.

The 'garmonbozia' is consumed by the Lodge dwelling Mike (one-armed man and dwarf combined = the full Mike), a form of consumable 'pain and suffering' that they exist on, likely evoking Ambrosia (food of the Gods).

Laura's accumulated "pain and suffering" - it is initially shown as "blood". 

It will be consumed as creamed corn (garmonbozia).

Laura - she's a literal garmonbozia "meal on wheels" - at least for the black lodge. It's even on her MOW menu.

MOW scene film - "The man in the mask (Bob possessed Leland) is looking for the book with the pages torn out."

Laura's diary gets some pages torn out. The torn pages and bloody towel are found outside of sycamore circle 

- where Leland/Bob gets absorbed into the underworld. 

This might happen to prevent foreknowledge of the etheric contact between Cooper, Laura and black lodge.

This (future telling) info was given to Laura (by Annie), where she was requested to write the reference in her diary. 

However, earlier in the film we see Laura give her diary to Harold Smith, so she can't write this reference into it.

Twin Greaks...

 The 'Mount Olympus' comparison...'lightning and twin peaks'

Garmonbozia vs Ambrosia

Food of the Twin 'Mt' Peaks, black lodge and Food of the Greek 'Twin Peaked Mt' God, Zeus 

Garmonbozia...creamed (small cube-like, nectar/yellow) corn

 Calypso (music/dance, dancing man). The Ambrosia (Garmonbozia) Table, Green/Hermes Table(t). 
Rosy-red (a la the Rosi-crucians, rose cross, Bulwer-Lytton, again etc) & Hermes!

 Yup...it all fits, Greek mythology, again!  Garmon-ambrosia...and lightning-bolt 'ambrosia scoffing' Zeus. 

 Hermes,  the 'as above, so below' green table(t) and Garmonbozia..."For-mica" (mica, rock: "let's rock"). 
'Spread a (green) table with ambrosia' (garmonbozia) 'set it by Hermes'.

The Log Lady makes an 'As above, so below' (from Hermes/tablet) speech in the 2nd series.

 

[19] Odyssey xii.62: "the trembling doves that carry ambrosia to Father Zeus."

The 'doves' (white angel wings) and 'the table' (the formica table) and via Mount 'Twin Peaks' (Olympus).  
This is one of Lynch's most positive and upbeat endings, in any of his work!

This is Laura's 'afterlife' (Elysium) redemption...her angel returned to save her. 

The ending musical (Requiem) piece that accompanies Laura's angel was performed by The 'Ambrosian' Singers. Cherubini's (Cherub) Requiem, part of a 7 movement death mass, for Laura and her last 7 days, we hear movement #7, 'Agnus Dei'. (Lamb of God, Lightning Struck Christ, the angels attending to Christ after the passion, death and resurrection). The Shining's 'Dies Irae' is part 3 of this mass. Remember, Kubrick used Lynch's Eraserhead, to 'set the mood' for his Shining film.

Cherubini's work is included in two short sequences,the first during the actual murder of Laura at the hands of her demon-possessed incestuous father, and the second as the end credits roll.

Calypso dancing...

MFAP (dwarf) is a composite 'ambrosia, table laying' Calypso (which is connected to red, rosy red and ambrosia), and a music/dance (dancing man). Yes, Calypso was female, but her 'aspects' directly apply to MFAP (dwarf) and his activity, other Calypso aspects, seem to connect to Laura. In Greek myth this was the name (Calypso) of the nymph who fell in love with Odysseus after he was shipwrecked on her island of Ogygia.

When he refused to stay with her she detained him for seven years until Zeus ordered her to release him.
(Cooper trapped in lodge and recall the dialogue, "the good Dale is in the lodge, and he can't leave.")
Kalypso (Greek) which probably meant "she that conceals",  (kalypto) "to cover, to conceal".
Note the 'concealing/covering' Venus statue, below.

Sexually active (nymph) Laura, she that conceals (she's filled with secrets/sexual secret-ions, to secret: to conceal).
Calypso is also one of Saturn's small moons...note Saturn statue and fly-by via MFAP/dwarf.

Perhaps, we should now view Cooper (in one aspect), as also being a composite type of Odysseus!

Dance of the Dream 'Zig-Zag' Man/Men
The only time that the lodge floor is shown as carpet (Cooper's dream) - which connects to Leland's material jacket. Leland's "dancing for Laura" (with Sarah present) and his smashing of her picture (with blood all over it), combined with the 'music in the air' gramophone - IS the set-up for the dream itself! It contains all the seeds. Pre-dosed with the elements of the dream that would immediately follow. Dancing 'zig-zag' Leland, with Laura, and dancing 'zig-zag' red dwarf dream man, with Laura. "Let's Rock". Leland even "snap-clicks" his finger/thumb a few times before the song comes in on the gramophone. Finger clicking IS the essence of "Dance of the Dream Man" track which accompanies Coop's dream. Coop who wakes from the dream clicking his fingers etc.

More echoes - "sofa surfing" with Black Lodge Bob and Black Lodge Laura.

With Laura - It's actually (Bob possessed) Black Lodge Windom, using Laura's doppelganger.

The Grove 'portal' acts as a multiple reference to 'the wheel' (zodiac), the tree of life/death, and the 'underworld' concept (hades/hell - under the sycamore). Twin Peaks 'river' likely acts (in one aspect) as the river Styx.  

The river that formed the boundary between 'earth' and the 'underworld'.  
The bodies (of Laura, Teresa Banks) are both deposited in the river.  
FWWM (opening) - Teresa Banks' body floats through Hells Canyon, drifting along in Wind River.

The new Twin Peaks (season 3) will supposedly air in May 2017.

Portal to the 'Lightning Black Lodge'. Who dwelt under the sycamores in Twin Peaks?

Michael J Anderson...MFAP - Let's Rock/Mr Roq-ue.

A little man who MOVES, to the music of the spheres (via the palms/kaph & palm-er), epileptic and spasmodic, to the rhythm of your fears.  Py/Pi...thagoras, music of the spheres, circles, planets. Cherry Pi/Py/Pie. Jupiter/Saturn meet, Saturn (shadow) will fly past when he rubs his palms.

 He gets more 'circular and hand/kaph' resonance from the 'Ring' (circles, rings, Saturn etc)

Anderson as 'black lodge' MFAP (red dwarf/gnome), and in 'Mulholland Drive' as Mr Roque (Roquat the Red).

Mulholland Drive's "Winkie's/Winkies" - also being heavily tied to the Oz mythos.
Where's the Mulholland wheel? Mr "wheelchair" Roque, not under the sycamore, but under Ryan Entertainment.

 He is key in tracking and following Diane and her story, almost like he is directing things from the beyond. 

 There he is in Carnivale (series) next to 'the ferris wheel' as (Carnivale co-owner) Samson Leonhardt, his right-hand man Jonesy, operates the Ferris Wheel - it is clearly one of the shows iconic images.

It initially centres on 'The World' (card 21), which is symbolically very similar to the wheel card, both refer to 'cycles' and each has the 4 fixed signs in the corners of the card.

'Thoth Tarot' Crowley...may well be referenced in the series.  The title sequence (through the cards) @ 11-12 seconds, shows a sign marked with the word Crowley.  There is a Justin Crowe in the series (the antagonist) who has set-up a church and who seemingly has abilities via his 'will' (love under will, Crowley). Justin Crowe is from a 'Methodist' background, as Crowley, himself was. Justin Crowe also heavily connects to a Wilfred Talbot Smith...a likely reference to Wilfred Talbot Smith, a former high ranking member of Crowley's OTO.  OTO Smith was actually married to Helen Parsons, she joined him after John 'OTO' Whiteside Parsons left her.

The Sphinx & The Wheel...

Note, in the below clip...we clearly see the 'sphinx' that accompanies the wheel. Soon to be vanquished Crowe, is first 'deliberately' shown at the summit of the wheel, where the 'sphinx' rests, also this likely acts as a foreshadowing of his coming downfall, as he descends to the bottom. Also note that hands (palms) and clapping (from Ben), that exerts influence, while Crowe experiences difficulties on the wheel. Kaph and the wheel of fortune...the hand/palm.

The climax, via The Sphinx, The Wheel, The 'Chest' Tree, Saturn (sickle), Sacrifice...Carnivale

 Some of you were probably expecting this, but note also Subliminal Synchro Sphere's regular feature...The Lightning Struck Tree! Crowley/Crowe has even got a rendering of 'a tree' on his chest. You'll have to click the link...to watch via youtube!  

So, little Micky J Anderson, featured in 2 TV series (Carnivale/Twin Peaks), that both reference 'the tarot', particularly 'the wheel' and both series each ended with 'wheel' and 'lightning struck tree' scenes!  Admittedly, this is shown more directly in Carnivale, and in a more subliminal (Lynchian) way, in Twin Peaks.

 Thing is...Carnivale's Justin 'Clancy Brown' Crowley/Crowe, was in The Shawshank Redemption and we all know where that leads, don't we?

The lightning-struck tree...

 The 3(0)3 Shawshank 'Tree' was stuck by 'lightning' in 2011. 

 Clancy also featured in Lost...which featured the stricken 777 (lightning tree pathway)

Clancy 'The Wheel' Brown...even the Dharma logo is an 8-sided wheel-like symbol.

Wheels (not unlike circles) represent cosmic forces, power, creation and destruction, fate, time, eternity. And obviously, the most important item in this episode (Lost, There's No Place Like Home 2) is the frozen donkey wheel. The frozen donkey wheel, not surprisingly, bears a certain resemblance to the dharmacakra, also known as the Wheel of Dharma (33, the spine) or the Wheel of Law. It’s an ancient Buddhist symbol and it represents the 8-fold path to enlightenment.

 

Lost, 8-fold path via a wheel of (karmic law), just like the 'karmic' law (rising up and down, ascending/descending via fate) of the 8-spoked wheel of fortune!  Recall, the island is also Jacob's 'spinal' (ladder to heaven) Island (see previous posts)  and 'Dharma' relates to the spine and ascension/enlightenment.

“Serious moonlight” - according to Nile (a river in Egypt, lol) Rodgers, was Bowie referencing Rodgers’ habit of calling a particularly good groove or track “serious.” Bowie once called the phrase as his attempt at an “Americanism.” Nicholas Pegg offered the mad and quite possibly accurate theory that Bowie was referencing an Aleister Crowley poem - Lyric of Love to Leah,

Let's Dance via the moon, sirius (seirios) and Oz.

...whose lines include “let us dance beneath the palm/moving in the moonlight” and later 
“come my love, let us dance/to the moon and Sirius!” I.e., the Sirius Moonlight. Aleister "moonchild" Crowley. The Loft on Sirius/XM had a David Bowie Channel recently, and in memory of him.

"Let's dance [via Oz] beneath the PALM" - in a summer suit and via the serious/sirius moonlight. (Palm-er)

Bowie's real name Davy Jones, which was also the name of one of The 'Day Dream Believer' Monkees.

Sirius (the scorcher) is the star of the masonic brotherhood - the star that hangs in all lodges.
Bowie - the (sirius moonlight) diamond dog (star). Sirius, the diamond dog star in the sky.

A black lodge tear/rip in the fabric of space/time

Black Star - a dent/tear in space/time. A black hole is also a literal black star.

Kether to Malkuth - The lightning path passes thru 'da'ath/sirius' and the veil (Isis) - the dweller on the threshold. 

Bowie also worked with Lynch in "Lost Highway" (Pathway) - he bookends the soundtrack.

Bulwer "dweller on the threshold" Lytton's proteges - Crowley et al - allegedly formed the Isis/Urania Hermetic group.

777 and via the "lightning" lodges. Crowley wrote liber/book "777" (in 1909).

Switched Duggie and Cooper (eps3). Duggie-Pas - Dugpas. 

Duggie seems to be the (temporary) conduit for Good Cooper to return to the world.

Zig-Zag Lightning and 777

Episode 3 was heavy on "Eraserhead" symbology...where Lynch first used the lightning flash motif.

Major Briggs' head floating in space (quoting "blue rose") was also homage to Eraserhead (1977).

Heads floating in space...Twin Peaks & Eraserhead. It was Briggs that referenced messages from space.

Twin Peaks/Eraserhead overlaps - new series opening - where MFAP (dwarf) has evolved into a "tree". 

Very similar to the Eraserhead "tree" that is shown on the draped stage (at the climax) in that 1977 film.

Ziggy-Zaggy

Plenty of "portal" activity in the new Peaks series - and where etheric travel via electricity is a huge aspect.

Plug sockets, car cigarette lighter sockets etc.

Cooper and a strange woman emerge from a metallic type of unit suspended in space, a lever is pulled.

Evoking the lever pulling "God" from Eraserhead. This lever pulling will be evoked again via the casino and "one-armed bandits" (fruit machines). Geddit, a one-armed "777" bandit (like one-armed man).

Twin Peaks meets the Man in the Planet (Eraserhead)

Jack Fisk played the "man in the planet" (Eraserhead). The 'sparking/electric' linked entity that pulls levers!

Hit the "777" Jackpot.

The first "fruit machine" that (series 3) Cooper uses is "Fives and Spark-lers".

Eraserhead. Rhea, sister/consort of Cronus/Saturn, and mother of 'lightning-bolt' Zeus (Jupiter). 

It's also Saturn's second largest moon. Rhea's tree is the "fir" - "smell those Douglas Firs".

Inside the car of Bob possessed Cooper. Cronos/Cronus/Saturn (time/chronology) and the green ring (via electric lighter). 

Cronus (Saturn) the Titan of the harvest (the reaper, garmonbozia). Father of Zeus (Jupiter)

Saturn (and it's rings) and the green ring. The Good Cooper has been released back into the world. 

Good Cooper could only leave lodge captivity if the evil Cooper was returned/banished to the lodge.

Rancho Rosa (Rose Ranch) - Sycamore St., a Little Rock (little dwarf, "let's rock") and Black Lodge. 

There is even a "beware of the (black) dog" notice on the house in the background (above left).

Black female hooker "Jade", which is also a type of rock and related to the colo(u)r black. Black jade rock is also related to 'protection' of the etheric body from negative or destructive forces. During Cooper's drive with Jade he drops the room key and avoids being shot by a negative force - the sniper.

It's the 'one-armed man' (Mike/Gerard) who seems to be directing these goings-on. Recalling 'car crashing' (Bob possessed) Cooper - lodge drapes precede his recall - and releasing the Good Cooper back into reality. 

Three Coopers (Cooper/Cooper/Cooper, see message from space) - switching that involves temporary conduit Dougie/Duggie (Dug-pa) - who seems to be replaced with Good Cooper, and who concurrently absorbs Bob possessed Cooper (or an etheric aspect of him) back to Black Lodge, and where one-armed man (Mike/Gerard).

The episode ends with a telephone call to the Philadelphia FBI Office. Prior to the call we have a scene that references the strange portal in the New York building - a portal that is/was being heavily surveilled. On the telephone, Cole (Lynch) seemingly talks to Cooper, who is on the other end. Cole and Albert arrange to meet with him the following day in Black Hills, South Dakota. I think this is also the same location/area where (Bob possessed) Cooper crashes his car.
